Rules of Breeding Pig Registration in Taiwan

Chapter 1 General Principles

 

Article 1   In order to foster purebred pigs, to increase the breeding ability of pigs and to improve the quality of pigs in Taiwan/ROC, National Animal Industry Foundation (hereinafter referred as “the Foundation”) promulgates the Rules of Breeding Pig Registration (hereinafter referred as “the Rules”)

 

Article 2   Breeding pigs included in this Principles are listed temporarily as follows::

 

2.1      Landrace

2.2      Yorkshire

2.3      Duroc

2.4      Hampshire

2.5      Berkshire

2.6      TLRI Black No.1 (only purebred pedigree registration available)

2.7   Meishan (only purebred pedigree registration available)

2.8   Taoyuan (only purebred pedigree registration available)

2.9   KHAPS Black (only purebred pedigree registration available)

2.10  Spotty Lanyu (only purebred pedigree registration available)

2.11  Mitsae (only purebred pedigree registration available)

2.12  Lanyu (only purebred pedigree registration available)

2.13  Binlang (only purebred pedigree registration available)

2.14  New breed approved by Council of Agriculture (only purebred pedigree registration available)

 

Article 3   Registrations of breeding pig include the following:

 

3.1      The pedigree registration of purebred breeding pig

3.2      The reproductive performance registration of breeding pig

3.3      The growth performance registration of breeding pig

3.4      The top honor registration of breeding pig

 

 

Chapter 2 The Pedigree Registration of Breeding Pig

 

Article 4   The Basic Pedigree Information Registration is the record of mating and farrowing of purebred pigs. The pedigree registration is the transferred record of non-registered qualified purebred pigs after examined by the Foundation. Purebred Pig Registration is the record of pedigree and performance of pure breed pigs.

 

Article 5   The requirements and classification of Basic Pedigree Information Registration are defined as follows::

 

5.1      Daily Breeding Card for Breeding Sow (Form A-5)

5.2      Farrowing Card for Piglet (Form A-6)

 

Article 6   Pig farm owners whose breeding sows meet the following requirements shall be allowed to apply for the Basic Pedigree Information Registration.

 

6.1      The breeding sows shall meet one of the following requirements:

6.1.1        Registered breeding sows;

6.1.2        Non-registered progeny from a registered breeding sow and the semen of a foreign-registered breeding boar recognized by the Foundation;

6.1.3        Non-registered progeny of a registered breeding sow and a foreign-registered breeding boar with certification;

6.1.4        Non-registered progeny of a registered breeding sow and a registered breeding boar;

6.2      A well-grown sow with the specific breed characteristics, normal externals, no serious defect and two-side neat-lined nipples.

 

Article 7     Daily Breeding Card for Breeding Sow (Form A-5) shall be filled out and forwarded by the pig farm to the Foundation within 7 days after the breeding sow is mated. Over due case shall be charged for a reissued certificate.

 

Article 8     Farrowing Card for Piglet (Form A-6) shall be filled out and forwarded by the pig farm to the Foundation within 25 days after the sow has farrowed. Over due case shall be charged for a reissued certificate.

 

Article 9     The Basic Pedigree Information Registration shall be filed out and stored after the result of examination by the Foundation is verified.

 

Article 10   Pigs which meet the following requirements shall be allowed to apply for pedigree registration.

10.1              The progeny of registered sow;

10.2              The pig registered for Basic Pedigree Information Registration according to the rule.

 

Article 11   If the ownership of pig is changed due to transfer or inheritance, the new owner shall fill out the Pedigree Registration Application Form (Form A-7, A-8, A-9, A-10) and forward the form to the Foundation within 15 days after the ownership is shifted. 

 

Article 12   When a new ownership occurs due to transfer or inheritance, a Pedigree Registration Certificate (Form C-6) shall be issued after the pig is verified by the Foundation.

 

Article 13   Pigs which meet the following requirements shall be allowed to be registered as purebred pigs:

 

13.1              Pigs qualifying for one of the following:

13.1.1        Purebred pigs imported from other countries with pedigree certificate recognized by Foundation (Please refer to Appendix Form I of foreign purebred swine associations recognized by the Foundation);

13.1.2        The purebred progeny of registered sows with Basic Pedigree Information Registration;

13.1.3        Purebred pigs with Pedigree Registration Certificate approved by the Foundation;

13.2              Piglets aged at five months or more and meet the Breeding Pigs Classification Standard of the Foundation with Score 70 or above:

13.2.1        Landrace Type Classification Standards (Appendix I);

13.2.2        Yorkshire Type Classification Standards (Appendix II);

13.2.3        Duroc Type Classification Standards (Appendix III);

13.2.4        Hampshire Type Classification Standards (Appendix IV);

13.2.5        TLRI Black No. 1 Type Classification Standards (Appendix V);

13.2.6        Berkshire Type Classification Standards (Appendix VI);

13.2.7    Meishan Type Classification Standards (Appendix VII);

13.2.8   Taoyuan Type Classification Standards (Appendix VIII);

13.2.9   KHAPS Black Type Classification Standards (Appendix IX);

13.2.10  Spotty Lanyu Type Classification Standards (Appendix X);

13.2.11  Mitsae Type Classification Standards (Appendix XI);

13.2.12  Lanyu Type Classification Standards (Appendix XII);

13.2.13  Binlang Type Classification Standards (Appendix XIII).

 

Article 14   Purebred pigs shall be registered by the owner or an authorized assigner(hereinafter referred as the Owner) according to types of breed. Purebred Pig Registration Application (Form A-1, A-2, A-3 and A-4)shall be filled out and applied at the Foundation.

Article 15   Purebred Pig Registration Certificates. shall be issued to qualified breeding pigs (hereinafter referred to as Breeding Boar or Breeding Sow) after they are examined by the Foundation(Form C-1).

 

Chapter 3 The Reproductive Performance Registration of Breeding Pig

 

Article 16   Registered breeding pigs which meet the following requirements shall be allowed to register for their reproductive performance:

16.1                Breeding Sow

                                    Sows examined by Foundation and qualifying for Littering

                                    Ability Test of Breeding Sow Bylaw (Appendix VI);

16.2                Breeding Boar 

At least 5 piglets from 3 different mated sows are qualified for Reproductive Performance Registration.

 

Article 17   A Reproductive Performance Registration Certificate (Form C-2) shall be issued to qualified breeding sow or breeding boar after they are examined by the Foundation.

 

 

Chapter 4 The Growth Performance Registration of Breeding Pig

 

Article 18   Registered breeding pigs which meet the following requirements shall be allowed to register for their growth performance:

18.1                Individual Tested Pigs

Qualified breeding pigs as examined by Livestock Research Institute of Council of Agriculture, Institute of Animal Technology Institute or appointed institutes by the Foundation;

18.2                The Progeny Test of Breeding Sow

After mated with 3 different breeding boars, one progeny of each boar is qualified for growth performance registration;

18.3                The Progeny Test of Breeding Boar

After mated with 3 different breeding sows, one progeny of each sow is qualified for growth performance registration.

 

Article 19   A Growth Performance Registration Certificate (Form C-4) shall be issued to the qualified breeding pigs after examined by the Foundation.

 

Chapter 5       The Top Honor Registration

Article 20   The breeding pigs with reproductive registration and having met one of the following requirements are honored to register as superb breeding pigs:

20.1                Breeding Sow

The sows which pass three littering ability tests after 15 months post-farrowing; or at least 5 piglets among all the farrowings from mating with 3 different breeding boars are qualified for reproductive performance registration;

20.2                Breeding Boar

At least 12 piglets among all the farrowings from mating with 3 different sows are qualified for reproductive performance registration.

 

Article 21   A Superb Reproductive Performance Registration Certificate (Form C-3) shall be issued to the qualified breeding pigs after examined by the Foundation.

 

Article 22   The breeding pigs with growth registration and meeting one of the following requirements shall be honored to register as superb growth pigs:

22.1                Individual Tested Pigs

The breeding pigs with both reproductive performance registration and growth performance registration and having one qualified piglet for growth performance from each two different mating breeding boars or breeding sows;

22.2                The Progeny Test of Breeding Sow

The breeding sows with both reproductive performance registration and progeny testing growth performance registration;

22.3                The Progeny Test of Breeding Boar

  The breeding boars with both reproductive performance registration and progeny testing growth performance registration;

 

Article 23   A Superb Growth Performance Registration Certificate (Form C-5) shall be issued to qualified breeding pigs after examined by the Foundation.

 

Article 24   The breeding pigs registered as superb growth performance pigs according to Article 24 and whose parents’ and grandparents’ generations are also registered purebred pigs at the Foundation shall be awarded with a Plum Blossom Award medal.

 

Chapter 6 Bylaw

 

Article 25   In case a certificate of purebred pig registration or pedigree registration cannot be issued due to erroneous or mistaken records, the Foundation shall reissue the certificate when mistaken records are corrected according to Article 30.

 

Article 26   If any of the following situations happens to registered breeding pigs, A pig farm owner might apply for information correction at the Foundation :

26.1                In case of transferring, applications (Form A-11) for registration of change of ownership shall be made by the new owner who might apply for new certificates at the Foundation together with the original Purebred Pig Registration Certificate;

26.2                If there is any erroneous or mistaken record for Basic Pedigree Information Registration, the original purebred pig certificate shall be returned to the Foundation and an application of correction and new certificate might be made according to Article 30.

 

Article 27   If there is a correction of Basic Pedigree Information Registration, the pig farm owner should deal with the situations according to the following regulations:

27.1                In case of blanks, miswriting, scribbles, unclear copy or wrong given information during registering Basic Pedigree Information Registration, the pig farm owner should make a copy of Basic Pedigree Information Registration and impose a seal at the corrected information on the copy. The copy should be then mailed back to the Foundation for correction.

27.2                The correction to be made on filed Basic Pedigree Information Registration shall be made according to Section 1 of Article 30. If it is not possible to correct, the case shall be dealt with according to Article 34.

 

Article 28   If any of the following situations happens to pedigree registered breeding pigs, the pig farm owners should apply for information correction at the Foundation:

28.1                If the ownership of pedigree registered breeding pigs is transferred for more than 2 times, the previous owner shall return the original Pedigree Breeding Pigs certificate and apply for correction according to Article 11.

28.2                If the transferring of ownership is canceled, the original breeding pig owner shall fill in Cancellation of Pig Ownership Transferring (Form A-12) and forward the form to the Foundation. The Pedigree Registration Certificate shall also be returned to the Foundation.

 

Article 29   If the Purbred Pig Registration Certificate is lost or damaged, the registered owner shall fill in Purebred Registration Certificate Reissue Application (Form A-13) and forward the form to the Foundation for a new certificate.
 
Article 30   If the Pedigree Registration Certificate is lost or damaged, the registered owner shall fill in Pedigree Registration Certificate Reissue Application (Form A-14) and forward the form to the Foundation for a new certificate.

 

Article 31   The Foundation has the right to cancel the registration and application of pig owner who forges or provides any incorrect information.

 

Article 32   All necessary fees for all services supplied by the Foundation shall be listed and published after filed to Council of Agriculture for reference.

 

Article 33   All the simple regulations for services at the Foundation are listed as follows:

                  33.1        Purebred Pig Registration: Breed

                  33.2        Productive Performance Registration: Reproductive

                  33.3        Superb Productive Performance Registration: Superb-reproductive

                  33.4        Growth Performance Registration: Growth

                  33.5        Superb Growth Performance Registration: Superb-growth

                  33.6        Daily Breeding Card: Breeding card

                  33.7        Farrowing Card for Piglet: Farrowing card

 

Article 34   All the registrations and other necessary issues shall be announced after registrations, cancellations or changes are made.

 

Article 35   The formats of all documents or certificates of principles shall be decided upon by the Foundation.

 

Article 36   The rules shall be put into force upon being examined by the Team for Genetic Improvement of Breeding Pig of the Foundation and upon being reported to Council of Agriculture for reference, and so shall the amendment of the rules.
